We changed dentist back along to one that so called catered more for children with problems going to, shall we say, a 'mainstream' dentist.
The appointments we have had for J previously have never been great to be honest. She has big anxiety about going still and pre lockdown one appt actually took place in the car park, with a quick check of her teeth as J refused to go in the building.
Today was the first appt since lockdown. To say they were not very PDA friendly is a massive understatement. Even though they are aware of her diagnosis!
Hubby and J had to wait in the car until the receptionist went out to get them. First mistake ... she said "come on then, hurry up, we haven't got all day"
Second mistake ... once finally in the building, J was not keen to open her mouth, so the Dentist says "you did it fine last time, what's so different today?"
Hubby tried to explain that just because it happened fine last time, having to repeat the experience to the same level as before is a whole new demand and therefore increased anxiety.
They did manage to have a quick look in her mouth eventually but the whole thing made me feel pretty angry as they are meant to be the 'specialists'!! Needless to say I have written a letter of complaint to them. Not worded too strongly but suggesting they change tack next time to help J overcome her anxiety not add to it!!
Sometimes I despair!!
