Child Adolescent and Mental Health Service

If you look up CAMHS on the internet there are an awful lot of people complaining about accessibility to the service, which seems to be extremely under funded.

Here in Dorset we apparently have just one consultant psychiatrist for the whole county. They are so over stretched, getting an appointment is extremely rare. It was only because we had a very dangerous crisis point back in June 2019 that they became involved (having rejected an approach by J's school six months earlier!).

Even though we were initially under Paediatric care, it seems CAMHS have taken much more of an interest due to J's complexities, which fortunately seems to have piqued the Consultant's curiosity!

It's a travesty that it takes an exceptionally serious crisis to start the ball rolling don't you think?!
