J has been on Risperidone for some time now. We had awful trouble in the beginning getting her to take it before we learnt we could get it in liquid form and not a tablet! She now now knocks it back like you would a shot!
This medication is widely known to to treat children who are aggressive and/or very irritable. It's definitely helped in our case. Bearing in mind we were getting multiple meltdowns a day, most of which were aggressive and would last hours and hours!!
J is also on Methylphenidate Hydro Chloride, a medication to stimulate areas of the brain affected by ADHD. Again we have noticed a definite marked improvement. It's difficult to explain but she is generally more focused, engaging, more thoughtful, less hyperactive and less impulsive.
