HEARING VOICES

J in the past has blurted out "mummy (or daddy), why did you say that?" even when we are not even in the same room!! When asked what we supposedly said, her answer is "you just said I'm thick".

This is quite sad really as that is something we just wouldn't ever say!

We have mentioned it to our Paediatrician who told us that  sometimes hearing voices is the brain’s way of trying to manage something difficult, so could be J's own thoughts being played out so to speak.

Apparently some autistic children may express their own thoughts in an unusual way like this or can struggle to give them context so that they can be mistaken for hearing voices (e.g. they may say “my brain told me to do it”).
